Castle shop

Whether it is a memento or the perfect gift, we have a large and varied selection of classic souvenirs, Danish design and unique products, inspired by current exhibitions and collections. The selection ranges from books, i.a. our own series about Danish kings, textiles, jewelery, arts and crafts, local products for classic souvenirs such as key rings, magnets and Christmas decorations.

If you have a club card for Kongernes Samling, you get 10% on the entire range in the store.

You can visit the museum shop without buying a ticket to Koldinghus.

Special Needs

Koldinghus is an ancient royal castle dating back to the 13th century. It has evolved over centuries, undergoing numerous renovations, resulting in many stairs and different levels. With assistance from the staff, all floors except the Giant’s Tower and the Dungeon are accessible to wheelchair users and individuals with limited mobility. There is also a handicap lift to the Food Cellar.

Below, you’ll find information about access and disability facilities at the castle. In our reception, you can obtain a business card with a phone number for the staff patrolling the exhibition areas, allowing you to easily call for assistance.

Parking

In the Stable Yard, about 100 meters from the entrance to Koldinghus, there are four handicap parking spaces available. Please note that parking fees apply to these spaces.
If you have limited mobility, it is possible to drive directly to the castle’s gate for drop-off and pick-up. Parking is directed to the Stable Yard parking area.

Wheelchair Users and Individuals with Limited Mobility

Wheelchair users and individuals with limited mobility will be welcomed at the entrance gate of Koldinghus by our staff. Please contact the staff at +45 2381 9520 upon arrival.

In the reception area, where tickets are purchased, visitors will receive a visitor guide and be guided on how to navigate the castle. Additionally, a business card with the staff’s phone number will be provided, which can be called for assistance at any time.

The visitor guide includes the following:

A. Gate, ticket counter. Contact the staff at the ticket counter to gain direct access to the castle courtyard. The museum has two wheelchairs available for loan.

B. Main entrance for wheelchairs is through Frederik IV’s Hall (no. 34). There is passage through the south wing to a lift in the east wing.

C. Lift. Access to all floors in the south wing.

D. Access to the north wing through the Administration section, using a movable ramp with assistance from our staff.

E. Passage from the Ballroom (no. 9) the Great Hall (no. 10), using a movable ramp with assistance from our staff. To enter the Great Hall, please contact our staff.

F. Access to the ground floor of the north wing.

G. Accessible toilet.

H. Wheelchair lift for access to the Madkælderen restaurant.

NB! Unfortunately, because there is no lift, there is no wheelchair access to the rooms in the tower or to the top of the Giants’ Tower (nos. 11–15).

Koldinghus provides a wheelchair that can be borrowed free of charge.

Free Admission for Companions

Individuals with companion cards from Danske Handicaporganisationer (Danish Disability Organizations) can bring a helper/companion for free. Companion cards must be presented upon arrival. You can book a free companion ticket online or inquire at the reception upon arrival.

Guide and Service Dogs

Guide and service dogs accompanying their owners have access to the entire castle. The dog must be a trained service dog clearly marked with a “Working Dog” vest or similar. It must also be leashed throughout the visit.

Elevators

There is an elevator at Koldinghus. The width of the elevator door is 79 cm. The elevator does not reach the Giant’s Tower or the Dungeon. There is a lift for access to Madkælderen, operated by the staff of Madkælderen.

Restrooms

There is an accessible restroom on the basement floor near the elevator. Feel free to ask our staff for further information.

Resting Areas and Museum Chairs

Koldinghus provides seating areas for visitors to rest. Additionally, racks with lightweight museum chairs are available, which visitors can carry during their visit to sit and take a break at any time.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

If you have an invisible disability, you can receive a free Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and plastic pouch for a personal card when visiting Koldinghus. Both items are distributed in the castle shop or at the reception where you purchase your admission ticket.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a discreet signal to others that you may need a little extra time, patience, or assistance. As part of the Sunflower Program, our front-line staff understands this, and they are equipped to facilitate a pleasant and safe visit.

Practical Information

Special safety rules apply at the castle. Only very small bags are allowed, and they must not be worn on the back. It is also not allowed to bring items that could pose a danger to the collection’s objects. You can read more here.

Getting here and parking

Koldinghus is located a five-minute walk from Kolding Railway Station, Bus Station and City Bus Terminal.

Parking

Museum visitors can park in and just outside the Stable Yard.
The car park is owned and operated by the Danish Agency of Culture and Palaces, which charges a fee for parking. PARKING FEE: DKK 12 PER HOUR.

Disability parking

Four parking spots inside the Stable Yard are reserved for visitors with disabilities. Please note that the standard parking fee applies to these spots.

Coach/bus parking

There are three free parking spots for coaches/buses in the car park just outside the Stable Yard. There is additional coach/bus parking on Ejlersvej.

NB!

• You can always terminate your parking before it expires, so we recommend that you reserve a little longer than you think you will need.
• You can drive all the way up to the castle gate to drop passengers off before continuing down to the Stable Yard to park.

Practical information

Luggage

For safety reasons, it is only allowed to carry a small bag into the castle (max. size is D: 21 W: 29 H: 21). Larger bags must be stored in a luggage box (refundable deposit DKK 10/1 euro/1 token).). There’s no space for suitcases. Please note that luggage must be picked up before closing time.

Food

You are not allowed to bring food and drink into the museum; water excepted. You can eat in the MADKÆLDEREN restaurant at Koldinghus.

Private photography with/without a flash using a standard camera, mobile phone or video camera will normally be allowed throughout the museum. Tripods/camera stands are not allowed.

Prams and pushchairs

Prams and pushchairs are allowed in the museum.

Animals

Guide dogs are the only animals allowed at the museum; no pets.
