The Danish Arts Foundation's Jewelley Collection at Koldinghus

On 1 April 2019, Koldinghus took over the Danish Arts Foundation’s Jewellery Collection, which includes 300 pieces of art jewellery purchased by the Danish Arts Foundation from the most highly acclaimed and experimental jewellery makers in Denmark since 1978.

From 29 September 2019, the entire collection will be on display for the first time, at Museet på Koldinghus in the exhibition Our Jewellery. The exhibition presents some of the finest examples of Danish jewellery making from a period of five decades and offers unique insight into developments within the field of contemporary Danish art jewellery.

a princess of her time. hrh Princess benedikte and 75 years of danish history

In 2019, Koldinghus celebrates HRH Princess Benedikte’s 75th birthday with the special exhibition A Princess of her Time.

Based on selected highlights from the life and work of Princess Benedikte, the exhibition tells 75 years of Danish history through images, sound and objects, from the birth of the Princess in war-time occupied Denmark until today. The exhibition also illustrates how the dynamic changes in society over the past 75 years have impacted the Danish royal house and the work and contributions of the individual members of the royal family. The exhibition spans all four storeys in the spectacular Ruin Hall at Koldinghus, created by the architects Inger and Johannes Exner.

June 28 - September 29 2019

Visitors at Koldinghus can look forward to a playful experience in this year’s instalment of the presentation of graduation projects from Design School Kolding. The first class of PLAY designers, who graduate in June 2019, have provided the inspiration for this year’s theme. Although DESIGN FOR PLAY is only one among several master’s programmes at Design School Kolding, the curious exploration of a topic and the openness to the unexpected twists and turns in a process that characterize play are common methodological denominators for all the new design graduates.

Alongside the PLAY designers, the exhibition also features design graduates from the familiar lines: fashion, textile, industrial and communication design as well as this year’s second group of newcomers: the first class of accessory designers, who work with wearable accessories that may both have a practical function and express the wearer’s identity, such as shoes, bags, jewellery and wearables that combine welfare technology with jewellery design.

July 6 - September 1 2019

koldinghus tapestry cartoons

A generous donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation makes possible a monumental artwork by the four Danish contemporary artists Tal R, Kirstine Roepstorff, Alexander Tovborg and Bjørn Nørgaard. By virtue of his experience in the field, Nørgaard also acts as a consultant on the project.

In 2025, 17 tapestries will decorate two large halls of Koldinghus:  the Great Hall and the Dance Hall.

The tapestry cartoons to four of the largest tapestries are exhibited in 2019. The tapestry cartoons will later be used as model for the vowen tapestries.

December 2 2018 - March 17 2019

different but same

In December 2018, Koldinghus presents a duo exhibition featuring 90 silver works by two of Denmark’s most respected, productive and individualistic silversmiths, Yuki Ferdinandsen and Carsten From Andersen.

Yuki Ferdinandsen and Carsten From Andersen have refined their respective signature techniques of using hammer blows to imprint the surface of their objects, which exist in the border zone between functional silver hollowware and sculptural craft objects.
