Experience the meeting between old and new, when one of the castles guides takes you around the Ruin Hall. Here you can listen to the story about the transformation of the Ruin Hall, from a burned out ruin to a architectonic piece of art.
In 1972 the couple Inger and Johannes Exner got assigned the responsibility for the restoration of Koldinghus, which in more than 150 years has been stading as a burned out ruin. The purpose of the restoration was not to rebuild the castle as it was before the fire in 1808. The couple strived after to touch the ruin as little as possible, and then showing it as a dramatic periode in the castles and the history of the realm. Therefore the ruin was build into a new and protective architecture, which encircles the narrative value of the ruin. The guided tour in the architecture of Koldinghus gives you the opportunity to listen to the history behind the castles grand object, the Ruin Hall. In 1993 The Ruin Hall was given the Europa Nostra Award of cultural heritage and today it is a very important source of knowledge to the castles building history.
