Engravings by the Brothers Christoph and Cornelius Suhr 1807-1808
As far as we know, no pictures exist of the Spanish soldiers in Kolding in 1808. Nor of the French, for that matter.
But the Spanish soldiers who passed through Kolding on their way through Denmark, had passed through Hamburg earlier, and had been depicted there by the Brothers Christoph and Cornelius Suhr. The brothers published a series of engravings featuring the soldiers of all the different countries who passed through Hamburg in the years 1808 to 1815.
A small series of eighteen engravings of the Spanish troops of the Division Romana who were in Hamburg in 1807-1808 – even in Hamburg they were apparently exotic enough to interest the broader public – have been acquired by Museet på Koldinghus as a donation from Koldinghus Business Club.
