Tea caddy/Tobacco tin Design attributed to Thorvald Bindesbøll Hallmarks: crowned Michelsen - København 04 - 925 - ES - VI - SG - 1904 Length: 6.8 cm. Height: 10.9 cm. Weight: 320 g. MKH 923x7 Literature: Poul Dedenroth-Schou: Thorvald Bindesbøll and the Silversmiths. 1997, pp. 23 and 49
Square tin with a lid. The sides and the lid are decorated with embossed "cloud ornaments". Unlike many of Bindesbøll's other works in silver, the sides of the tin are smooth apart from the ornaments, which are individually applied. Two of these are mounted so that they extend over both the tin and the lid.
The tin is a fine example of the inspiration Bindesbøll derived from Japanese art. Not all of the surface is decorated. However, the decorative elements used are placed very consciously and to considerable effect. |
