Exhibitions 2013
12 January – 3 March
New acquisitions 2012
True to tradition, we open the year’s exhibition programme with a presentation of our new acquisitions from the previous year. As always, this is a mixed bag – this time ranging from a stuffed brown bear that lived in Russia before it became a visiting card holder in a lawyer’s home in Kolding to a quirky little cabinet with a collection of tools for working on clocks and other delicate mechanical devices.
13 April – 16 June
UNIQUEFORM
Royal uniforms as inspiration
UNIQUEFORM is a special exhibition with brand-new knit models designed and created by the members of the knitters’ society Netmaskerne. The exhibition marks a festive occasion, as 2013 is the 150th anniversary of the accession of the House of Glücksborg to the Danish throne.
25 May – 18 August
Evacuated to Kolding
Finnish children displaced during the Second World War
In spring 2013, Museet på Koldinghus marks a little known anniversary. On 21 May it is exactly 70 years ago that 59 Finnish children arrived on Kolding Railway Station with little suitcases in their hands and name tags around their necks.
8 June – 1 September
Dance, journey, joy
Hans Voigt Steffensen
Since the 1970s, Hans Voigt Steffensen (b. 1941) has created paintings that are permeated by music, movements, life and exuberance: exotic landscapes from faraway lands, observations of people. But above all: dancers – alone or in pairs – caught in a fleeting but intense moment. On a background of bright red, coal black or other colour options – depending on the artist’s mood.
26 June – 28 July
Graduation 2013
Design School Graduation Exhibition 2013
Again this year, the Kolding School of Design has produced a large and talented group of graduates. This exhibition suggests where new Danish design is headed in the fields of graphic design, interaction design, illustration, fashion, textile or industrial design.
21 September – 12 January 2014
Clothes make the movie
Historical movie costumes from Denmark and around the world
In the exhibition “Clothes make the movie”, Museet på Koldinghus focuses on one of the important waves in Danish and foreign movie production: historical movies.
24 August – 24 November
Modern jewellery design from Brazil and Denmark
Ten eminent goldsmiths from Denmark join forces with ten Brazilian colleagues in this transnational exhibition of modern jewellery design. The exhibition not only showcases fascinating contrasts between Nordic simplicity and Latin lavishness but also a shared reference to the global issue of sustainability – a key issue in an industry that until recently was associated with overconsumption and exploitation of the Third World. The exhibition is clear testimony to the transformation of jewellery design in Brazil and Denmark. Modern jewellery design is no longer measured in carats but on the interaction between form and material and on the loyalty of the piece to the resources of our planet
11 October – 24 November
Silversmith of the Year 2013
Recipient of the Karl Gustav Hansen Prize 2013
Every year, the Karl Gustav Hansen Prize is awarded to a Danish silversmith. This autumn, the prize recipient’s work is showcased in a solo exhibition at Museet på Koldinghus. The award was founded in 2001 by Udviklingsfonden for Museet på Koldinghus with the twofold purpose of encouraging Danish silversmiths to continue to work with hollowware and adding contemporary hollowware to the silver collection at Koldinghus.
